January World Crude Steel Production Decreases

The January crude steel production was down 1.6 percent over year when it comes to the world steel association statistics released out lately on the basis of its 71 steel producing member countries, totaling 148.1 million tons. By region, the increase marked in Africa, out-EU 27, Middle East, Russia and CIS in particular, while the rest of which reduced. It is noted that Africa pitched up 16.3 percent producing 2.0 million tons, out of EU 27 added 22.5 percent to 3.9 million tons and Middle East 4.7 million tons which gained 23.1 percent over respectively in January, worldsteel reported.

The figures reported from the CIS combined Russia and Ukraine totaled 7.2 million tons which also climbed 4 percent a year ago. On the other hand, the crude steel production in Oceania was down 3.6 percent to 107.6 million tons in the same period, while EU 27 member countries produced crudes steel of 10.2 million tons dropped 1.8 percent, North America 9.2 million tons which decreased 2.1 percent and South America 3.4 million tons dropped 6.3 percent respectively. In case of China, the country’s raw steel output was 77.2 million tons in January, which cut by 6.9 percent a year ago, but India added 7.3 percent to 12.5 million tons.

The crude steel production reported by Japan, Russia, Korea and Turkey also added 0.6 percent, 1.2 percent, 1.5 percent and 24.7 percent respectively while the growth rate was stood out in India and Turkey in particular, World Steel Association added. Meanwhile, US and Germany saw their crude steel production by 0.3 percent and 0.9 percent each while Brazil plunged 7.2 percent to 2.5 million tons a year ago.
